Drone Weather

Current air temperature. LiPo drone batteries lose significant capacity below 40°F — flight time decreases and voltage drops can cause mid-air shutdowns.

Sustained wind speed. The Skyrover S1/X1 is rated for Level 5 winds (max ~24 mph). Red at 22 mph provides a 2 mph safety buffer. Direction shown by arrow.

Peak wind gust speed. Gusts are sudden wind surges that can destabilize a drone faster than sustained winds. Same thresholds as wind speed apply.

Visibility in statute miles. Part 107 requires 3 SM minimum for drone operations. Below 3 SM you cannot legally maintain visual line of sight. "10+" means visibility of at least 10 SM.

Chance of precipitation this hour. The Skyrover S1/X1 is not waterproof — rain can damage electronics and degrade camera quality.

Cloud layers from METAR. BWHS is in Class G airspace (400 ft AGL max). Part 107 requires 500 ft clearance below clouds, so any cloud base below 900 ft AGL restricts max altitude. Cloud bases are reported AGL at the airport that took the observation, not at BWHS — this card adjusts for the difference between that airport's field elevation and the campus high point (1,362 ft MSL) before applying the 900 ft rule.

Relative humidity. Very high humidity (90%+) can cause condensation on electronics and lens fogging. Combined with temperature, it determines the WBGT heat stress index.

Planetary K-index measures geomagnetic storm activity. High Kp values (5+) can degrade GPS accuracy, causing position drift or loss of satellite lock on your drone.

UV radiation level. High UV means more sun exposure risk for the pilot. Wear sunscreen and a hat when flying in UV 6+. Consider shade breaks.
